In the Gaza Strip, well before 2023, 97% of its water was already unfit for human consumption, and years of blockade had eroded access to basic services. Now, children’s access to safe water has become even more restricted. Even access to school has plunged since the genocide began against the Palestinians.
Only 1 in 10 people now are able to access safe drinking water. At the same time, more than thousands of schoolchildren are now out of formal education. Due to the non-stop bombardment campaign carried out by the occupation, over 87% of school buildings have been damaged or destroyed. In the current context in Gaza, early childhood development programs, safe learning spaces and psychosocial support are not options; they are lifelines.
